Duck hunting season runs from Nov. 28, 2013 - Jan. 26, 2014, which makes perfect sense because apparently it is open season on Phil Robertson of Duck Commander and "Duck Dynasty" fame. While I have never seen the show, and am therefore neither a fan of the show nor of Robertson, the recent media frenzy over his GQ comments has made me question a few things.

Why is it that if Christians speak out against greed or pride or intolerance, there is no great contingency of fellow Christians who rise up to criticize us for our lack of tolerance and compassion toward the greedy, the prideful and the intolerant? Why are we only expected to be tolerant about certain sins in the 21st century? And why is rebuking greed or pride or intolerance usually perceived as righteous, but quoting a scripture about another sin is considered bashing and/or hating?

Don't get me wrong -- I don't believe in making rude or mean comments to anyone, whether they are greedy or not. I do think the Bible is clear -- we are supposed to love the greedy, the prideful, and the intolerant as much as any other sinners. This is a good thing seeing as how I am a sinner, too. However, I do think there is a great deal of politically correct bandwagon mumbo-jumbo coming out of the mouths of a lot of Christians in the name of "tolerance." I expect it of the secular community these days, but Christians attacking another Christian because he quoted scripture? REALLY?

I have never seen the duck show, so I don't "stand with Phil" or claim to know anything about him. I am certainly in no position to judge his motives. I do stand with the Bible, though, even when it steps on my own toes which it does...a LOT.

Last, but not least, why is it the very people who are saying Robertson should have kept his opinions to himself are the ones who are not keeping their opinions about Robertson to themselves??? I didn't read the article except for a few excerpts; I don't know anything about the show; but I find it smacking of arrogance and hypocrisy to criticize a man who was apparently asked a direct question, and to judge his motives in answering it with honesty and directness, saying he should have kept his opinion to himself when we are so quick to make our opinion about him very public. So where is our tolerance for a fellow Christian?

Hey, Kettle? I think the Pot is calling you...

John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
